Evolution ‘08

Evolution ‘08Evolution ‘08Evolution ‘08

In typical Australian fashion, the Australia Day festivities only really kick off when there is a long weekend as a result of a public holiday. This year was no exception. With Discovery holding their annual “Evolution” series, Evolution ‘08 was set to be an awesome night. Known DJs such as Tydi (who has had multiple Markus Schulz playlistings, and also has a track feature on Markus’ latest compilation, Amsterdam), TV Rock (featuring Seany B.) and the Potbelleez all lined up in the “main room” of Discovery. Lost Arc had an R’n'B lineup, while there was the “local heroes” room setup for local DJs. The only downfall of the night was that the Potbelleez were unable to play due to “transportation issues”.

TV Rock were first of the major headliners to play, and played an incredible set with Seany B jumping in and adding vocals for known songs. TV Rock ended their set with a song I’d never thought I’d hear in Darwin, ever. It was the Morgan Page featuring Lissie (an Australia vocalist!) song, Longest Road, remixed by none other than Deadmau5 (the best remix to date.) DJs UK and Flash were up next dishing out the electro house and set the stage for Tydi. I have been looking forward to seeing Tydi since he was meant to be playing with Paul van Dyk back in October. Finally, there was trance being played in Darwin. Not jut regular Trance, but with tracks such as Toca Me (the In Petto remix), an arsenal of Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn, and to cap off his set, John O’ Callaghan’s epic with Audrey Gallagher, Big Sky! (The Agnelli & Nelson Remix no less!) Definitely a night that was worth the wait, if only to just hear Big Sky play in a club (albeit no one knew the lyrics, but that’s alright.)
